Word on the Block

The Word, the Knowledge, and the Rhyme lighting up Black History in the ‘Hood

West Virginia

November 6, 2021 and October 9, 2022

A multilevel, intergenerational, mixed genre event with 6 Black scholars, 6 MCs and 2 podcast hosts. Spontaneous “edutainment” never before attempted on a small stage in the middle of 8th Avenue. This live event siphoned an element of history through a podcast conversation, lecture, and then Hip-hop MCs spat original rhymes on the same topic as part of Open Streets. Illuminating Black history with the word, the knowledge, and the rhyme. Co-produced by All Here Together Productions, Positive People Association, and “Thyrd” World Music. Made possible with support from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
